Information for Families
Thank you for the opportunity to share my passion for Arabic and learning about the world with your student! Studying Arabic is incredibly rewarding, but can also feel overwhelming at first when students realize the complexity of the language. However, Arabic study is worthwhile for countless reasons including college scholarships, job opportunities, increased tolerance and understanding, and much more! Below are some suggestions as to how you might support your student's Arabic learning, and also links to background information on the Arabic language and culture, in case you're interested. As always, please feel free to email me with questions or concerns.

How Can I Support My Student's Arabic Studies?
Even if you do not speak Arabic, you can play an important role in supporting your student's Arabic studies at BLA!
- Ask questions: have your student share what s/he is learning about in Arabic class, whether it be new vocabulary words, cultural information, or songs we listened to in class!
- Encourage good study habits: learning a language requires students to develop personalized study habits. You might check that your student is studying vocabulary words and offer to quiz him/her using flashcards before a quiz or test, remind her/him of the importance of completing assigned homework, and encourage him/her to stay after school for help as needed.
- Support passion for Arabic: help your student engage with the language and cultures of Arabic outside the classroom by suggesting your student check out the Resources & Links page for online resources, watching Arabic language movies (there are many on YouTube & Netflix, with subtitles!) together, eating at a local Arabic restaurant, and attending cultural events (such as at the Center for Arabic Culture).
